Corporate Comedian like Darci Lynne

Image of Corporate comedian Darci Lynne

Corporate Comedian & Ventriloquist Justin MIlan has recently received coaching from the man who discovered Darci Lynne and coached her thru winning America’s Got Talent!

Comedian Ventriloquist Justin Milan puts out a great comedy show that is clean and corporate-friendly and, upon request, family-friendly.

His comedy show began back in 1994 after he saw a ventriloquist at a New Year’s Eve Party and realized he could naturally speak without moving his lips.

He’s elated that Darci Lynne Farmer just took first place on America’s Got Talent.

Corporate Comedy Show in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Getting everyone laughing in the beautiful Iowa city of Cedar Rapids. I was brought in by Renk Seed, a Wisconsin-based company that was having their annual conference at the Marriott Cedar Rapids.

The audience was great. Largely comprised of farmers from nine different states.

I did corporate comedy that got them laughing, and also ventriloquism, including singing. Whenever my puppets start singing, peoples’ smart phones come out so they can show their friends.

I guess people are blown away that puppets / dummies can sing…

One thing that goes over very well with a corporate event audience is when you tie in humor about individuals in the crowd – especially if they’re well known, well liked, and appreciate sense of humor about things that happen in everyday life.

Corporate comedians are somewhat hard to come by because most comics use off-color humor, or profanity. My act is completely clean and suitable for the corporate environment.

I used to be based in Seattle, and then branched out and had plans to move to NYC because that seems to be the capital of what we could call “live entertainment.” In fact, it was when I lived in Seattle (Kirkland, which is right near Bellevue, WA), that I got invited by The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS to be a part of the:

Toyota Comedy Festival

Letterman’s audience warm up comic who also books the comedy talent for the TV show invited me to come to New York because someone told him, “you need to have this comedian (& ventriloquist) on The Late Show!

It didn’t work with my schedule to go out there, but I did go to the Big Apple on other occasions.

I had plans to move there after graduating from undergraduate college in Chicago, Illinois, but moved to Seattle, Washington instead. I was doing corporate comedy events in Chicago during college, and was planning on hitting the comedy clubs hard when I moved to New York, New York.

Although I lived in the State of Washington after Wheaton College, I did visit New York City. In fact, I had plans to go to Manhattan right after September 11, 2001. My flight got cancelled because of the terrorist attacks, but I still traveled there as soon as possible.

I still remember the comedy emcee at Gotham Comedy Club finding out that no one in the audience was from out of town except me. People were actually shocked that I had traveled all the way from Seattle.

Ground Zero was still blocked off, and there was strong toxins in the air even several blocks away. It was kind of surreal being there at the time.

Anyway, I am now based in the Los Angeles and Orange County area of Southern California. I do corporate shows throughout North America. It’s a lot of fun to interact with audiences. I find out as much information about each audience before the show so I can tie in local humor or comedy specific to that corporation and keep people laughing.

Stand-up comedy is fun and I find it is helpful to have a lot of comedy and jokes in my arsenal. Something that works well with one audience might not be as big of a hit with another, so it is nice to switch it up depending on what is going over well with the audience so I can “hit it out of the park” for the corporate event entertainment meeting planner.

Corporate Comedian, Justin Milan, performs throughout the country. Whether it’s Boise, Idaho or Tallahassee, Florida, he’s committed to having people buckle over with laughter.

A very popular form of entertainment for corporate events is hiring a “corporate comedian.” Being a corporate comic myself, I thought I could share a bit about what makes my comedy ideal for this setting:

First of all, it’s clean. Turn on Comedy Central at an given moment and there may be a comedian spouting off about a politically divisive topic that polarize your corporate audience if they were performing at your event.

Either that, or it may be what would be considered as “blue,” “bathroom humor” that would not go over well in a professional setting.

As a meeting planner, you want the assurance that any comments made on stage are not going to create a huge human resources crisis first thing the next Monday morning.

I test my jokes out in front of a live, typically non-paying audience (except in some comedy club situations where I sneak them into the act to “test the waters,” so to speak) before making it to the stage at a corporate event.

Also, a very popular thing to do in my corporate comedy act is to bring audience members – people who are a part of your association or organization – on to stage with me. The audience lights up with laughter because their delighted to see their colleague in the limelight.

With this audience involvement comes a huge stewardship for a corporate comedian like myself. Sometimes the audience participant has had a couple of alcoholic drinks, so they might not “edit” their comments well to make sure they’re appropriate for the setting. That’s where I come in… As the comedian/moderator, I’m able to divert the audience’s attention to something else or steer the conversation elsewhere and keep it on track with something that’s potentially wholesome and uplifting, instead of gravitating toward the lowest common denominator.

It’s a lot of fun to do clean comedy, and to see people buckle over with laughter at some of the things that are being said.

Corporate Comedian to Entertain in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Image of Corporate Comedian Justin Milan

Justin Milan, Corporate Comedian, will be coming entertaining in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a corporate event

Corporate Comedian Justin Milan will be bringing his comedy sidekicks to the great state of Iowa to entertain at a corporate event.

It’s for a private company that is having their annual meeting in Cedar Rapids (apparently, it’s in different cities throughout the Midwest each year), which is about an hour and a half drive from Des Moines, IA, the capital and most populous city of Iowa.

Justin Milan will be traveling from Southern California (Los Angeles) to perform the comedy show. Interestingly, Justin visited beautiful Northwest Iowa every summer growing up because his dad was originally from the area (a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa, nearest major city is Souix Falls, South Dakota). In fact, his dad owned farmland in Iowa until recently (he wasn’t a farmer by trade, and Justin grew up in the Pacific Northwest – between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada), which he rented out to a childhood friend because it is known as some of the most fertile soil in the United States of America.

Justin Milan got his start as a Corporate Comic at the young age of 15. He’d always been fascinated with stand-up comedy, with a special appreciation for clean comedy that doesn’t offend. He naturally didn’t move his lips when he spoke, and when classmates in high school pointed this out to him, he started to realize he might be able to do ventriloquism.

At a New Year’s party, a Ventriloquist entertained and the light went on for the young comedian Justin Milan and he said, “I realized I could naturally do ventriloquism!”

Upon looking in to the cost of a ventriloquist dummy, and realizing that he’d need to scrape together anywhere between $600 and $3,000 to get a high quality one (this is back in 1994, mind you), he set out to carve his own – out of a block of wood.

After six months of hard work and his friends being more convinced each day something was wrong with him because he kept turning down requests to hang out because he said he was busy “carving my dummy,” he had his first like comedy sidekick – Luigi. Still an integral part of the show today. (There is some tension because Luigi has been demoted to “opener,” and thinks he should be entitled to the headliner comedian position for the mere fact that he’s been with the comedy show the longest. Justin Milan doesn’t agree.

Justin Milan, pictured with one of his comedy sidekicks, will be entertaining in Iowa.

“It’ll be a lot of fun to entertain this group in such a great part of the country – Iowa,” says Milan. “There will be a lot of farmers in the audience, and I’ve found farmers to be very nice, fun people to be around.”
